Feist on Sesame Street
Sesame Street is 39 years old (older than even me!) and im not sure why im surprised, but little has changed on the show. They still have guest performances by contemporary musicians. the first thing i saw when i woke up this morning was this video of Feist + muppets and it made me so happy.
even better is (my imaginary gf) Norah Jones with Elmo but my favorites will still be any of the dozens of times John Denver performed on the show.
sweet bike pics
PDXCross is full of really beautiful bicycle photos from a group of riders in portland.
Vanity Fair’s 25 Best News Photographs
In honor of Vanity Fair’s 25th anniversary, the magazine’s editors flexed their list-making muscles to determine the 25 best of everything—from book covers and documentaries to parties and political one-liners. Here are their choices for the top 25 news photographs. The collection is really powerful. Stuart Franklin’s Tiananmen Square photo moves me every time. Looking through them does bring up a ton of images that they didn’t include; off the top of my head, The fireman and child from the OKC bombing, Brent Stirton’s gorilla photo, David Turnley’s soldiers photo and nothing by Nachtwey. Still this is a testament to how much great work has been made.
VOTE for your choice of the best (what does that mean) news photo. what did you vote for eh?
How Race Is Lived In America.
The photo staff of the New York Times shares their personal experiences covering the issue of race in America. Most of you know this is one of my favorite topics. Why didn’t anyone interview me about this eh?
Crowley covering the “No Talk Express”
Jay Westcott steered me towards a bit on Stephen Crowley on The Digital Journalist. Crowley has been documenting the campaign of republican presidential nominee John McCain.
Also of note, the New York Times has photographers journals of their campaign coverage. It’s all really good, but the Damon Winter stuff is really good. Sometimes i just forget how good he is. Hi fives to Damon.
Chris Buckley photographed for the NY Times Magazine
Very excited to open up the New York Times Magazine this morning and see this photograph i made of Chris Buckley. Really a funny, insightful and interesting guy, with a wonderful family.
a night of firsts or fists either one is fine
I stumbled onto Josh Ritchie’s first fight photos on his blog and i was floored. they are so classic and good. they have my mind racing and wanting to rethink the way ive been shooting fights. i just want to step back a little further and view from a distance.

touchsmart = a giant iphone
i’ve never owned a PC but i saw this ad and im intrigued. it seems HP has designed a giant iphone. it looks pretty cool. i wonder what apple’s answer to this will be.
i’m sure it is going to kick off a new wave of touchscreen computers, but don’t forget Jeff Han was really the first guy to blow our mind with this.
most everyone likes to travel…
and photos are some of the best souvenirs.

© 2008 Michael Hughes
Michael Hughes has taken travel photography to another level. he makes photos of souvenirs in place of their true forms. so clever and so well done. Hughes had some of his shots printed and bound as a postcard book.
you can see the images on his flickr site.
